Lone Star jockey avoids serious injury in spill

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas - Jockey Junior Chacaltana, who was taken to Dallas Methodist Hospital with abdomen and chest pain following a two-horse spill in Sunday s seventh race at Lone Star Park, was released later the same night after undergoing tests, said track spokesperson Dan Leary.

John Rochabrun, who was also involved in the incident Sunday, returned to ride the next race.

Chacaltana, the second leading rider at Lone Star, was aboard La Poli, who fell after appearing to clip heels with Venetian Causeway at the top of the stretch in a second-level allowance at 7 1/2 furlongs on turf. Rochabrun s mount, The Difference, fell over La Poli.

Both horses got up quickly, and appeared to avoid serious injuries.

Chacaltana stood up briefly after the spill, but was taken off the track in a stretcher. Leary said Chacaltana also complained of a headache. He underwent a CAT scan at the hospital Sunday.

Venetian Causeway, who finished fourth, was disqualified and placed ninth for interference.
