Lone Star handles $1.9M daily

Not factoring in Breeders' Cup Day figures, Lone Star Park handled an average of of more than $1.95 million a day on its races and drew an average of 7,827 patrons per card during its fall meet that ended Oct. 31, according to figures provided by the Texas Racing Commission. The track hosted the Breeders' Cup on Oct. 30.

Ontrack handle on Lone Star races averaged $517,824, not counting the $13,332,565 bet ontrack on the Breeders' Cup Day card. Offtrack, handle on Lone Star's races averaged $1,439,089, with an additional $106,781,672 bet offsite on the track's races on Breeders' Cup Day.

The 19-day meeting was Lone Star's first fall meet for Thoroughbreds. At its annual spring meet this year, the track handled an average of $2.2 million a day on its races and drew an average crowd of 8,710.

Steve Asmussen won his sixth Lone Star title with 24 winners from 125 starters for stable earnings of $603,425. The leading rider was Roman Chapa, who won 24 of 107 starts and whose mounts earned $450,465.

Lone Star will run just one Thoroughbred meet next year, from April 14 to July 17.
