Lone Star: Dreaminofthewin preps for Governor’s Cup

Dreaminofthewin could punch his ticket to the $200,000 Governor’s Cup at Remington Park with the right kind of effort in Saturday’s sixth race at Lone Star Park. He is part of a strong cast for the 1 1/16-mile turf allowance that drew nine horses, including stakes winners Fifteen Love, Heavenville, J J’s Indy, and Capture the Flag.

Dreaminofthewin has placed in two graded stakes on dirt, the surface over which the Governor’s Cup, at 1 1/8 miles, will be run Aug. 11. But the horse also has been effective on turf, and owner-trainer C.R. Trout is hoping for a strong effort in advance of the Governor’s Cup.

“He can run on the grass, and his sire, Successful Appeal, gets a lot of runners for turf,” Trout said.

Trout also looks for Dreaminofthewin to be closer to the pace than he was in his last start, when he rallied from last for fifth, beaten just more than two lengths, in a $40,000 optional claimer at a mile on turf May 28.

“He was too far back and closed big time,” Trout said. “He’ll lay a little closer to the pace this time. He had a bullet work the other day and is just training through the bridle.”

Dreaminofthewin will break from post 8, under Luis Quinonez.

“He drew the outside hole – that’s what he likes,” Trout said.
