Lone Star Cowboy finds Indiana-breds to his liking

Lone Star Cowboy took advantage of a torrid early pace by rallying to a five-length win in the $70,000 Hillsdale at Hoosier Park on Sunday afternoon.

Trained by Joe Petalino, Lone Star Cowboy was making his third stakes appearance, but first against indiana-bred 2-year-olds. Lone Star Cowboy had been campaigning at Lone Star Park and also ran at Remington Park in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Ridden by Orlando Mojica, Lone Star Cowboy was kept back off a 21.60-second quarter and a 45.40 half-mile, before drawing off in the stretch. Lone Star Cowboy drifted in briefly in the stretch and had to survive a foul claim by the rider of the pacesetting second-place finisher, You Already Know. The stewards found insufficient evidence for the foul claim. Lucky Chuck finished third in the seven-horse field.

Lone Star Cowboy ran the 5 1/2 furlongs over a fast track in 1:03.40 and returned $4.40 to win.
