GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas - Jockey Alfredo Contreras was transported to Baylor Medical Center at Irving on Saturday after his mount, Tensastrike, reared in the starting gate and threw him prior to the eighth race. Contreras was stable but taken to hospital as a precaution, according to onsite medical personnel at Lone Star.

Tensastrike was scratched from the 1 1/16-mile turf race, which was delayed as medical personnel attended to Contreras behind the starting gate. He was placed in the track’s ambulance on a stretcher, brought to first aid in the grandstand, then transported by another ambulance to Baylor Medical Center.

Contreras was conscious and alert in the first aid area, said Brian Pochman, media relations manager for Lone Star.

Contreras ranks ninth in the standings, with 11 wins from 201 mounts this meet at Lone Star.
