Local Review drops into softer spot

Local Review takes a big drop into $12,500 claiming company and looms a strong favorite in Thursday's featured seventh race at Bay Meadows. The one-mile race for 3-year-olds will offer a purse of $16,000 and drew a field of seven.

Local Review has made ten starts already this season with a win, two seconds, and two thirds to his credit.

He was claimed by trainer Brian Koriner for $12,500 in August and has made two starts for his new owners against much tougher competition.

Local Review finished third against a band of $25,000 claimers in September at Pomona, beaten just two lengths.

Last out at Santa Anita, Local Review finished an even fourth in a mile race for $20,000 claimers. He finds a much softer spot here.

Up Mim's Aly, from the red-hot Armando Lage barn, and Dr. Slew appear likely to offer the main threats to Local Review. Up Mim's Aly finished third in his last start here on Sept. 5 in a similar mile contest. Dr. Slew, a stakes winner last year at Emerald Downs, has had little success thus far in his sophomore campaign.

He dropped to the $12,500 level last out and had a mild late bid to finish fourth in a six-furlong race. He should enjoy the longer distance of Thursday's race.

Continental Press has been showing speed sprinting on the fair circuit and may get a clear lead.

Another with a chance at the top prize is Really No Saint from the high-percentage Terry Knight stable.
