Local horses sweep stakes for 2-year-olds

Horses with proven form over the Colonial Downs turf course outshined out-of-town favorites to sweep the co-featured $60,000 stakes for 2-year-olds.

Captain Bry ($8.80), who crushed maiden special weight rivals three weeks earlier, rallied for a one-length victory over Mr. Keeper in the Chenery. Ridden by Craig Gibbs for owner/trainer/breeder Bryan Baker, Captain Bry completed 5 1/2 furlongs on turf in 1:04.77.

Kentucky Stormin, a 20-1 shot who had his head in front with a furlong remaining, weakened to finish third.

The Todd Pletcher-trained Sabino was fifth as the 6-5 favorite.

Glamorous Gal ($25.60), the second longest shot among a field of nine 2-year-old fillies, used her front-running speed to a earn 4 1/2-length win under Tom Foley in the Tippett. Trained by Simon Hobson, Glamorous Gal ran 5 1/2 furlongs in 1:04.46 three weeks after getting up by a head over straight maidens while making her first start on Lasix.

Saldanha finished second, two lengths in front of Mothers Eyes.

Samantha's Strike, a first-time starter from the barn of Delaware Park-based trainer Steve Klesarsis, finished last as the 5-2 favorite.
