Literato wins Prince d'Orange

EmailLiterato continued his winning ways at Longchamp on Saturday with a comfortable weight-giving victory in the Group 3, $112,000 Prix du Prince d'Orange.

Handily placed in fifth place early by jockey Christophe Lemaire, Literato cruised to the lead at the three-sixteenths pole, crossing the line three-quarters of a length in front of Indian Choice as the 1-2 favorite. It was another neck back to Anabaa's Creation, with All Is Vanity fourth.

The time for the 1 1/4 miles on good to soft ground was 2:07.30. The winner was spotting the runner-up five pounds and the third-place finisher eight.

A 3-year-old son of Kendor, Literato is now 7 for 11 lifetime. He added Saturday's win to victories in the 1 1/4-mile Group 3 Prix La Force and the 1 1/4-mile Group 2 Prix Guillaume d'Ornano, in between which he was second in the 1 5/16-mile French Derby.

Trainer Jean-Claude Rouget will now prepare Literato for the 1 1/4-mile Group 1 Champion Stakes at Newmarket on Oct. 20.
