Lindsay Jean takes Moment To Buy Handicap

ALBANY, Calif. - Lindsay Jean won the first stake of her career with a wire-to-wire victory in the $59,050 Moment To Buy Handicap at Golden Gate Fields on Sunday.

Originally scheduled for the turf, the 1 1/16-mile race was transferred to the main track after heavy overnight rains. Lindsay Jean ($12.40), coming off a victory and a second-place finish in turf races in her past two starts, was able to dictate the tempo on a wet-fast track and was never seriously challenged as she beat Super Tuesday by two lengths in 1:41.78.

"She's game and handled the track well," winning rider Chad Schvaneveldt said. "I thought that first quarter in 23 (22.91) won it for us."

The 3-year-old filly, a $250,000 purchase by Mr. and Mrs. Jerome Moss, has flourished since coming north after finishing last, beaten 19 3/4 lengths in her first start at six furlongs. "I didn't do anything different other than trying her on grass and changing a little equipment," winning trainer Art Sherman said
