Lincoln: What About David looks sharp

What About David swings back off his game victory in the Big Red Mile Handicap to head a field of seven going six furlongs in the $12,500 President's Cup Handicap at Lincoln.

Trained by Andy Johnson, What About David has continued the good form he used to post a 5-2-2 mark last year from 11 starts. He is on that sort of a pace again this year, with a pair of wins here in Lincoln to accompany a pair of second-place finishes in the Ogataul and Budweiser Tondi Handicaps at Fonner Park. R.D. Williams once again has the mount. What About David will break from post 5 under top weight of 122 pounds.

Thundering Verzy signaled his readiness for thisrace with a sharp half-mile in 46.60 seconds before the races last Sunday and will be the main threat. Thundering Verzy won the Ogataul Handicap this spring by a strong 4 3/4 lengths. In the Big Red Mile he loomed a threat going to the far turn, but faded to finish seventh. He can be expected to improve on that performance. Armando Martinez will ride from post 7 at 120 pounds.

Doug's Shadow, trained by Julie Larmon, will also pose a threat following his fourth-place finish, beaten a length, in the Big Red Mile. Before that, in his 2005 bow, he rallied from well back in a six-furlong allowance to fall just a half-length short of What About David. Alex Granda will ride from post 3 at 120 pounds.
