Lincoln State Fair track report

LINCOLN, Neb. - Jockey Megan Ludlow, who arrived toward the end of the Fonner Park meet, made her first winner at the Lincoln State Fair a memorable one when Megans Molly ($51.60) rallied to win last Sunday's $10,000 Princess Stakes for trainer Paul Linafelter. Ludlow's 15-month old son, Ian, was at the track for mom's big win on Mother's Day.

* Luis Ranilla, a native of Peru who arrived in Nebraska from south Florida late in the Fonner Park meet, has made a big impact on the jockey colony here. Ranilla won four races on Saturday and three more on Sunday to take a 7-6 early lead in the jockey standings over Jerry Carkeek. Four of Ranilla's winners were 10-1 or higher - Jim's Remember Me ($26.20) on Saturday, and Little Anna ($28), Hot Rod Joy ($28.80), and Sassy Edith ($24.20) on Sunday.

Carkeek had four winners on Friday's opening card, taking advantage of a strong inside speed bias. Carkeek's best ride may have been aboard Crafty Rhythm, who broke like a rocket from post 9 in the final race, then crossed over to gain the rail en route to a $40.60 upset.

A deep surface provided slow times but favored speed on the rail through the first two days.
