Lincoln: Skwhirl looking in top form

Email

Skwhirl looks to regain his solid form of a year ago when he faces six others in the $20,000 Big Red Mile for older Nebraska-breds at Lincoln.

Skwhirl is winless in five starts this year but has been consistently improving. Last year he was competitive in stakes company for trainer Bob Rising. Skwhirl scored his only win of last year in the Amadevil Stakes at Columbus, and has been showing signs that he may be nearing a top effort.

Buffalo Road, trained by David Anderson, is taking the step up to stakes company off back-to-back wins against entry- and second-level allowance company in his two starts this year. Buffalo Road should be the speed of the race and will be tested for class.

Justabit Shawklit was a multiple stakes winner as a 3-year-old in 2006 but made just one start last year, finishing second in the Ogataul Stakes at Fonner Park. Trained by Herb Riecken, he went back on the shelf following that race and opened the campaign this year with a good second to Frogman Henry in a $20,000 claiming race at Fonner Park in April. He has performed well at the distance and over this surface.
