Lincoln: Nikki Nine tops Princess

Nikki Nine, a two-time stakes winner at Fonner Park this spring, returns to action Sunday when she heads a field of seven 3-year-old fillies in the $15,000 Princess Stakes at six furlongs.

Nikki Nine is coming off a fifth-place finish in the Goldfinch Stakes at Prairie Meadows on April 21. She contested the pace in that race before fading in deep stretch. Trained by Kim Veerhusen, she should be a solid favorite here for trainer. Larren Delorme has the mount from post 1.

Terrell Hemmer will send out his undefeated Lovesablumin off a 4 1/2-length win in the fillies division of the Fonner Park Special on April 1 in her stakes debut. A daughter of Blumin Affair, Lovesablumin won her maiden at first asking March 3 when she romped by 9 3/4 lengths. Her follow-up effort in the Fonner Special marked her as something special, and she should give Nikki Nine a strong test. Jerry Carkeek rides from post 3.

Smacktalker, trained by Jim Compton, has been running strongly in second-level allowance company at Fonner Park and finished a closing third to Nikki Nine in the Pepsi Stakes. With a pair of solid speedsters to set up the race, Smacktalker should be a major factor late. R.D. Williams will be aboard from post 7.
