Lincoln meet gets off to a good start


The early numbers for Lincoln Race Course were very encouraging as the track opened to an enthusiastic crowd of 4,885 last Friday night.

The track, now under the management of Omaha Exposition and Racing, reported a 16 percent gain in all-sources handle compared with last year's opening weekend.

The track has also been receiving good exposure through local TV station KOLN/KGIN, which had early morning on-site reports Monday through Wednesday his week.

* Jake Olesiak, winless on Friday and Saturday, rode four winners on Sunday to join a logjam at the top of the rider standings. Jordan Olesiak, who won the Fonner Park riding title this spring, shares the lead with brother Jake, plus Jose Ranilla, Jesus Ponce, and Armando Martinez at four wins each.

* Shadowbdancing, trained by Terrel Gore, was named the horse of the year and top older horse at Fonner Park for his win in the Bosselman/Gus Fonner Stakes.
