It took three weeks of delays, but Heso finally got to strut his stuff at Lincoln on Friday night as he took command through the far turn and drew off for a 7 3/4-length win in the $20,600 State Fair Breeders' Special for Nebraska-bred 3-year-olds. Heso, trained by Kelly Von Hemel and based at Prairie Meadows, has been a regular visitor to Lincoln this year but has faced an uphill battle in getting to race. He was the expected favorite for the six-furlong Journal Star Stakes on May 26 but unsafe track conditions forced a cancellation of that card. He returned here June 9 for the Breeders' Special but a lighting system failure forced the cancellation of the final two races that night.
