Lincoln: Death Trappe vs. weaker

LINCOLN, Neb. - Death Trappe is coming off what may have been the worst effort in his career, but the return to statebred company in Monday's $15,000-added Big Red Mile Handicap should help him bounce back.

Trained by Tom Garry, Death Trappe finished ninth in the Bosselman/Gus Fonner Handicap at Fonner Park in late April, appearing not to cope with the muddy going.

Death Trappe is likely to show speed when he breaks from post 6 under Armando Martinez in the Big Red Mile. He will carry high weight of 120 pounds.

J.R. Honor makes the jump from claiming and starter stakes into heavyweight territory here and is a threat to steal the race from Death Trappe on the lead. He races as part of a Gilbert Ecoffey-trained entry with stablemate Watch Me Dazzle, who earned Fonner Park's claimer of the meet award.

R.D. Williams has the mount on J.R. Honor, who has a four-race win streak. He was claimed in his last outing by Ecoffey for $7,000 here at Lincoln. Jerry Carkeek will ride Watch Me Dazzle.

Grayglen would be the likely beneficiary of a strong pace. A gray son of Glenview, Grayglen won a pair of allowance races at Fonner Park and rarely gives a poor effort. Yuri Yaranga will ride from post 7 at 118 pounds.
