Email

LINCOLN, Neb. - Bach's Homebrew ran his record to 5 for 5 over the local course with a late run to capture the $16,350 President's Cup Stakes by a head in the Sunday feature at Lincoln Race Course.

Honkytonk Stomp and unexpected even-money favorite Canadian Ridge hooked up through the first turn of the six-furlong sprint with Jake Olesiak and Honkytonk Stomp soon gaining a clear lead heading up the backstretch. Honkytonk Stomp continued on a clear lead through the far turn and looked a winner turning for home as From the Ashes made a bid nearing the stretch. Chris Fackler and Bach's Homebrew were in full stride through the final turn while saving ground, then swung six wide for the drive and continued strongly to run down Honkytonk Stomp in the closing jumps.

Bach's Homebrew returned a generous $7.20 as the second choice in the field of eight while boosting his lifetime mark to 9-2-1 from 14 starts for earnings of $110,434 for trainer Larry Staroscik and owner Bluestem Farm. Honkytonk Stomp held a clear second, two lengths in front of From the Ashes while Canadian Ridge settled for fourth. Bach's Homebrew covered the distance over a dull racing surface rated as fast in a meet-best 1:12.00.
