Lincoln: Bach’s Homebrew, Reach One More face off in Big Red Mile

Email

Something has to give when Bach’s Homebrew and Reach One More face off in the $20,000-added Big Red Mile for older Nebraska-breds going a mile at Lincoln Race Course on Saturday afternoon. The race drew only five entrants, but those two should put on quite a show to open the holiday weekend.

Both horses are as evenly matched as could be. Each owns a mark of five wins from six starts over this track, and both are undefeated at the distance, with Bach’s Homebrew owning five wins going a mile while Reach One More has won four times at this distance. Bach’s Homebrew boasts a career record of 13 wins from 19 starts, while Reach One More has won 11 of his 18 starts. And, finally, both have won this race in their only appearance – Bach’s Homebrew going away by nine lengths last year while Reach One More in 2010.

Bach’s Homebrew, trained by Larry Staroscik, is a late-running son of Milwaukee Brew who will be looking for a strongly contested pace. His stablemate Bingosablumin, also owned by Don Everett’s Bluestem Farm, will go as an uncoupled entry, and the pair were one-two in last year’s edition.

Reach One More, trained by Chuck Turco, does his running near the front and will surely have company on the lead in this spot. Former stablemate From The Ashes was claimed off Turco by Steve Hall out of a win in a $10,000 optional claiming race at Fonner Park this spring. The pair should set a hot pace which will give Bach’s Homebrew and rider Chris Fackler a solid target to run at.
