With the unbeaten filly By the Light topping the list at 112 pounds, a dozen New York-breds were weighted on the Experimental Free Handicap for 2007.

Bred by Paul Rothfuss, the daughter of Malibu Moon concluded her 4-for-4 season with a daylight victory in the $300,000 Delta Princess Stakes.

By the Light is out of Dixie Tempo, by Major Impact. Dixie Tempo is a full sister to Queen of Wilshire, winner of the Grade 3 Hawthorne Handicap. This family includes La Basque, the dam of multiple Grade 1 winner and former New York sire Bounding Basque.

The highest-weighted male New York-bred is Cannonball at 111 pounds.

Bred by Ken and Sarah Ramsey, the son of Catienus won the open King Cugat Stakes at Belmont Park and five days later finished third in the inaugural Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf at Monmouth Park.

Cannonball is out of No Deadline, by Skywalker. No Deadline is a half-sister to Silent Emotion, from a family that includes former state sire Zoning, champion grass horse Drumtop, and Group 1 winner Take Your Place.

Next in the weights is the filly I Promise at 109 pounds. Bred by Chester and Mary Broman, the daughter of state sire Hook and Ladder finished second in the Grade 2 Schuylerville Stakes.

A member of her sire's first crop of runners, IoPromise is out of Affirm Promise, by Affirmed. Affirm Promise is a half-sister to multiple stakes winner Sheena Native, whose victories included the Ellis Park Budweiser Breeders' Cup.

At 106 pounds were the filly Glacken's Gal and the colt Overextended.

Bred by the late Peter Karches and Michael Rankowitz, Glacken's Gal won the historic Astoria Stakes at Belmont Park last summer. She is out of the Silver Deputy mare Lady Diplomat, who raced for Karches and Rankowitz.

Glacken's Gal is a half-sister to City Dweller, winner of the Lost Code Stakes. Her stakes-winning second dam, Mercedes Miss, placed in the Arlington Oaks and Honeybee Stakes, both Grade 3 events.

Overextended, a son of Monarchos, was bred by Jeffrey P. Sexton. An open maiden winner at Oak Tree/Santa Anita last fall, he placed to the highly regarded Colonel John in the Real Quiet Stakes at Hollywood Park.

Overextended is out of Way of Life, by Gulch. Second dam Dixieland Dream is a half-sister to Adhocracy, winner of the Grade 3 Fairmount Derby.

The Experimental Free Handicap, produced by the Jockey Club, is a ranking of the previous year's 2-year-olds based on weight assignments for a hypothetical juvenile race at 1 1/16 miles. The topweighted filly on the list is champion Indian Blessing at 123 pounds.

The remaining New York-bred fillies on the list are Sherine, bred by Sez Who Thoroughbreds, at 103; Meriwether Jessica, bred by Cheryl A. Prudhomme, 102; and Remarkable Remy, bred by Sugar Maple Farm, 102.

The topweighted male on the Experimental is champion War Pass at 127 pounds.

The remaining New York-bred males are Big Truck, bred by A. Lakin & Sons, at 102; Rollers, bred by Mrs. Gerald A. Nielsen, 101; He Ain't Easy, bred by Robert Speigel, 100; and Law Enforcement, bred by Camelia Casby, 100.

N.Y. Thoroughbred Breeders' election

Michael J. McMahon was re-elected as president of New York Thoroughbred Breeders' Inc. at the 2008 organizational meeting of the group on Jan. 28. He owns McMahon Bloodstock LLC, a consulting firm with clients who race and breed Thoroughbreds in New York and several other states.

Re-elected as vice president was Suzie O'Cain, who co-manages Highcliff Farm in Delanson with her husband, the veterinarian Dr. Lynwood O'Cain. Vivian Malloy, the owner of Edition Farm in Waccabuc, is the newly elected secretary-treasurer of NYTB.

Elected to the executive committee were Dennis J. Brida, owner of Grandchester Meadows Farm in Ballston Spa, and Chester Broman, owner of Chestertown Farm in Chestertown.

* William A. Levin, chairman of the New York State Thoroughbred Breeding and Development Fund from 1994 to 2005, died at age 86 on Jan. 26. The owner of Gold Mills Farm in Old Westbury, Long Island, he was the breeder of New York-bred stakes winners Sir Ack, Sir Keys, Adlibber, Costly Reason, and Noble Flyer.
