Light Jig gives Frankel weekend sweep

INGLEWOOD, Calif. - Bobby Frankel's team of stakes-winning older turf fillies and mares added another member Sunday when Light Jig won her first stakes in the $200,000 at Hollywood Park.

Light Jig, 4, was ridden by Alex Solis. Frankel and Solis swept the weekend stakes at Hollywood Park. Saturday, they teamed to win the Cinema Breeders' Cup Handicap with Greek Sun.

Light Jig joins Etoile Montante, Intercontinental, and Megahertz as top older turf mares in Frankel's stable.

Light Jig was a slight 2-1 favorite in the Grade 2 Beverly Hills. She stalked Noches de Rosa and Miss Loren through early fractions of 25.47 and 49.71 seconds and moved closer to the front on the final turn.

By then, Miss Loren had faded from contention, leaving Noches de Rosa and Moscow Burning to dispute the lead. Moscow Burning led by a length at the eighth pole but could not hold off Light Jig, who won by a length. Light Jig finished 1 1/4 miles on turf in 2:01.52.

"She had some kind of acceleration at the end," said Humberto Ascanio, Frankel's assistant.

Moscow Burning finished 1 1/2 lengths in front of Noches de Rosa in the field of six fillies and mares.

Light Jig, who races for Juddmonte Farms, has won 4 of 11 starts and $237,810.

"She's just getting better and better," Ascanio said. "She's put on weight and the key is she's really healthy."
