Librettist heads Moulin

Librettist will put his Breeders' Cup Mile credentials on the line in the $385,000 Prix du Moulin de Longchamp on Sunday. The winner of the Prix Jacques le Marois at Deauville last month, he has been selected by his owner, Godolphin, for the Group 1 mile instead of its other Breeders' Cup Mile hopeful, Ifraaj, who skipped Saturday's Haydock Park Sprint Cup because of the same soft ground that he would also have encountered in the Moulin.

Librettist has won all four of his starts this season, among them the Group 3 Prix Messidor before the Jacques le Marois. A 4-year-old Danzig colt, he performs on any type of ground and may actually improve on his neck victory in the Marois over the Andre Fabre-trained Manduro.

Librettist will be ridden by Frankie Dettori.

Stormy River, winner of the Group 1 Prix Jean Prat and fourth in the Marois on similar soft ground, would prefer a firmer surface, as would Aussie Rules, winner of the French 2000 Guineas.

Irridescence is the wild card in the Moulin deck. After winning Nad Al Sheba's listed Balanchine Stakes going 1 1/8 miles and the 1 1/4-mile Group 1 Singapore Airlines International Stakes in her first two starts for Team Valor, the 5-year-old mare was switched from trainer Mike de Kock to the Chantilly-based John Hammond to prepare for the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.

Irridescence was a Group 1 winner in her native South Africa on soft ground and just could provide Librettist and Manduro with more than they can handle despite her four-month absence from the races.
