Liaison to Spendthrift in 2014

Grade 1 winner Liaison will enter stud next year at B. Wayne Hughes’ Spendthrift Farm in Lexington, Ky., and will participate in the farm’s ‘Share The Upside’ program.

The 4-year-old Indian Charlie colt, conditioned by Bob Baffert for owners Arnold and Ellen Zetcher, will remain in training through the end of the season. He is pointing to the Grade 1 Awesome Again Stakes on Sept. 28 at Santa Anita Park as a prep for the Breeders’ Cup, Nov. 2-3 at Santa Anita.

“Liaison is a Grade 1-winning 2-year-old and one of the top performers by Indian Charlie, who was really establishing himself as one of the industry’s elite sires before he died,” Spendthrift general manager Ned Toffey said. “Physically, Liaison is a tremendous-looking individual with great conformation, and he’s a very sound horse. We believe breeders are going to love him.”

To date, Liaison, who is out of the stakes winning Victory Gallop mare Galloping Gal, has won five of 17 career starts for earnings of $767,038. He scored his biggest victory as a juvenile, when he captured the Grade 1 CashCall Futurity. He also won that season’s Real Quiet Stakes, and owns two stakes victories this year, in the Grade 2 Mervyn LeRoy Handicap and the Santana Mile. He has placed in four other graded stakes events.
