Lezcano sweeps stakes at Monmouth

Jockey Jose Lezcano swept both stakes on the holiday card at Monmouth Park, coming from far back aboard Social Queen ($16.40) to nail Medley at the wire of the $70,000 Politely on turf and urging Heckuva Good Time ($9) to run down pacesetter Pure Disco in the $60,000 Open Mind Handicap on the main track.

Social Queen, making her first start since September, was last for most of the one-mile Politely and still was in front of only two horses in the field of nine fillies and mares with a furlong remaining. Angled out to the middle of the track by Lezcano, the 4-year-old Social Queen finished fast to overtake Medley by a neck while completing the distance over a firm course in 1:34.88.

It was the third win in four starts since Social Queen was switched to the turf last July by Alan Goldberg, who trains the daughter of Dynaformer for the Jayeff B Stables.

Goldberg said Social Queen will likely be pointed for the Grade 3, $150,000 Eatontown Stakes June 14.

Lezcano picked up his third win of the card one race later when he guided Heckuva Good Time to a two-length victory in the six-furlong Open Mind for New Jersey-bred fillies and mares.

A 4-year-old trained by Mark Shuman for the Golden Dome Stable, Heckuva Good Time has now won 3 of 7 lifetime. In earning her first stakes victory, she completed the distance over a fast track in 1:09.73.

Pure Disco, a four-time stakes winner in New Jersey last season, held second by a head over Talkin About Love, the 6-5 favorite.
