Lewises to sell some mares

Prominent Thoroughbred owner Bob Lewis said Wednesday that he and his wife, Beverly, will sell 18 broodmares at the Keeneland November breeding stock sale this year. The consignment will not include Serena's Song.

"The broodmare band seems to multiply by leaps and bounds," Lewis said from his home in California. "I felt that I'm not in the breeding business, I'm in the racehorse business. But we have found ourselves with a lot of very nice fillies who have proved to be outstanding broodmares. We felt it was time to reduce the herd. "

The consignment will include stakes-winner and stakes-producer Storm Beauty, a daughter of Storm Cat and the great producer Stick to Beauty, in foal to A. P. Indy; Grade 2 winner and 2003 Kentucky Oaks runner-up Santa Catarina (Unbridled-Purrfectly), in foal to A. P. Indy; graded stakes-placed Renaissance Lady (A. P. Indy-Storm Beauty), in foal to Elusive Quality; and Grade 2-placed Unbridled Beauty (Unbridled's Song-Dreamscape), in foal to Tale of the Cat.

The 18 mares will sell through the consignments of Denali Stud and Taylor Made.
