Lewis Michael not pointing to Belmont

Lewis Michael, a close second to Sunriver on Saturday in the Peter Pan Stakes, is more likely to make his next start in the Colonial Turf Cup than in the Belmont Stakes, trainer Wayne Catalano said Monday.

"Right now, as we speak, we are not going to the Belmont," Catalano said. "But that could change. We got three weeks, so things could happen."

Lewis Michael probably ran the best race of his career in the Peter Pan, but he is a more experienced - and perhaps better - horse on turf. The June 24 Colonial Turf Cup at Colonial Downs carries the same $1 million purse as the Belmont.
