Les Crime enters dash on a roll

PORTLAND, Ore. - Les Crime shoots for his third straight win on Sunday when he heads a field of six older sprinters in a $3,200 starter allowance at six furlongs.

Les Crime, a 5-year-old son of Really Golden, came to hand with a front-running win over $2,500 rivals on Feb. 28, when he covered six furlongs in 1:13. Les Crime was claimed by trainer Jim Fergason for owner L. Dean Honrath that day, and in his first start for his new connections he beat $3,200 rivals by more than seven lengths on March 14, when he got six furlongs in 1:12. He was ridden by leading rider Javier Ortega in both of those scores, and Ortega will again have the mount at 121 pounds on Sunday.

Les Crime faces a stern challenge from That Cool Cat, who will be shooting for his fourth win at the meeting. That Cool Cat, a 7-year-old from the barn of Jonathan Nance, has won twice for a $5,000 tag and once for an $8,000 claiming price at this stand, with all three victories coming at six furlongs. In his most recent outing, on March 6, That Cool Cat ran third at a mile for a $3,200 claiming price. He was beaten less than two lengths by Forestville, who returned to win again at the same level on Monday.

Also coming off a win is Gammagoat Kid, who scored by three-quarters of a length over $3,200 rivals on March 14. Gammagoat Kid has won 3 of 4 outings when teamed with rider Juan Gutierrez, who again has the call from trainer Jim Keen at 121 pounds.
