Leroidesanimaux leads Lanwades roster for 2014

Champion Leroidesanimaux will stand for an introductory fee of 17,500 pounds, or about $28,135, in his first season at Lanwades Stud in Newmarket, England.

The 13-year-old Candy Stripes horse, sire of champion Animal Kingdom, most recently stood at HallMarc Stallions in Ocala, Fla., for a fee of $25,000.

Leroidesanimaux, a top-level competitor in his native Brazil, later came to North America to win the Grade 1 Citation Handicap and two other graded stakes events in 2004. He added Grade 1 scores in the Atto Mile and Frank E. Kilroe Mile Handicap and finished second in the Breeders’ Cup Mile in 2005 to earn Eclipse Award honors as champion turf male. The multiple course record-setter retired with nine wins from 13 starts for earnings of $1,658,377.

Leroidesanimaux’s runners are led by Animal Kingdom, who captured the 2011 Kentucky Derby en route to earning the Eclipse Award as champion 3-year-old male. Animal Kingdom, who also captured this year’s Dubai World Cup, recently began his stud career at Arrowfield Stud in New South Wales, Australia and will shuttle to spend the Northern Hemisphere season at Darley’s Jonabell Farm in Lexington, Ky., at a $35,000 fee.

Leroidesanimaux, who is from the family of prominent broodmares Hasili and Arrive, is also the sire of Grade 2 winners Always a Princess and Sarah’s Secret, Grade 3 winner Leroy’s Dynameaux, and Una Cabeza, a Group 1 winner in Argentina.

The Lanwades roster for 2014 also includes Archipenko, Aussie Rules, Sir Percy and North Light. All four will stand for 6,000 pounds, or about $9,646.
