Leonnatus Anteas wins Vandal Stakes

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - First-time starter Leonnatus Anteas ($17.70) got up in the final strides under Jono Jones to capture the $150,400 Vandal Stakes at Woodbine Sunday.

All six 2-year-olds vied for the early lead in the five-furlong dash, before favored Spread the News and Mutakinmove dueled up front around the turn. Spread the News emerged with a clear lead in mid-stretch, as Leonnatus Anteas and Carysfort Light were both in the midst of a wide rally.

Leonnatus Anteas prevailed by a head over Carysfort Light, in a final time of :59.86 seconds. Spread the News weakened to finish another half-length back in third in the field of Ontario-breds.

Kevin Attard trains Leonnatus Anteas, who earned $90,000 for Knob Hill Stable and the Estate of Steve Stavro.

* Jockey Garry Cruise notched his first Woodbine stakes aboard favored Colorful Judgement in Saturday's supporting feature, the $76,600 With Approval.

Colorful Judgement closed wide from well back to win by two and a quarter lengths over Tusayan. He completed nine furlongs on the grass in 1:48.41 seconds.

Making his first start off the $60,000 claim by trainer Alec Fehr, Colorful Judgement returned $8 and banked $45,000.
