Leonnatus Anteas best in Coronation Futurity

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Favored Leonnatus Anteas ($5.80) kept him unblemished record in tact with a decisive victory in the $252,800 Coronation Futurity at Woodbine Sunday.

Leonnatus Anteas traveled four-wide throughout most of the nine-furlong route for 2-year-olds, racing three and a half lengths off the lead on the backstretch under Jono Jones. He loomed into contention on the far turn, and hit the front at the head of the stretch en route to a length and a half score, in a time of 1:55.97 seconds.

Marchfield, a promising maiden by A.P. Indy, rallied wide for second in the 12-horse field of Canadian-breds. Jiggs Coz led through middle fractions of :48.56 and 1:14.57, before weakening to finish a half-length behind Marchfield in third.

"He's a beautiful horse," said Jones. "He's does whatever you want him to do. He's just so professional."

Leonnatus Anteas is now unbeaten in three stakes starts, and is the leading contender for the Sovereign Award as this year's champion 2-year-old. Trained by Kevin Attard, he earned $150,000 for Knob Hill Stable and The Estate of Steve Stavro.
