Trainer Dickie Small settled for winning two of the three stakes run during the final week of 2004 at Pimlico when his colt Legal Control ($17.80) drew off in the stretch to win Friday's by 2 1/2 lengths.

Monster Chaser, stretching out beyond six furlongs for the first time, outfought Prideland, the even-money favorite, by a neck for second. Legal Control completed 1 1/16 miles on a fast track in 1:46.21.

Small also saddled Perilous Night to victory in last Sunday's Squan Song. His filly Take a Check finished second as the 3-5 favorite in Thursday's Maryland Juvenile Filly Championship.

Jozbin Santana, who rides first call for Small, picked up the mount on Legal Control when Ryan Fogelsonger took off because of soreness from a fall earlier in the week.

Legal Control's dam, Miss Legality, won the 1992 Black-Eyed Susan, while his sire, Thunder Gulch, captured the 1995 Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes and was third in the Preakness.
