Lea, Commissioner return Saturday

Tom Keyser
Lea, winning the Donn Handicap last year, is among six entered for Saturday's Grade 3 Hal's Hope.

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Only six were entered for Saturday’s Grade 3 Hal’s Hope at Gulfstream, led by last year’s Donn winner, Lea. The remainder of the lineup consists of Valid, Golden Lad, Confrontation, Slim Shadey, and Prayer for Relief.

Saturday’s card also will feature the return of Commissioner, who was nominated for the one-mile Hal’s Hope but will start instead in a 1 1/16-mile optional claimer. Commissioner had surgery to remove a bone chip from an ankle after finishing second in the Belmont Stakes.

Commissioner, a son of A.P. Indy, will face seven rivals in his 4-year-old debut, including the Grade 3-placed Ulanbator. Commissioner won his 3-year-old debut in an allowance race here last January.
