Laurel moves two stakes to Monday

In the wake of Wednesday's snowstorm, Laurel Park announced it has canceled live racing for Friday and moved two stakes scheduled for Saturday's card to the Monday Presidents Day card.

The Grade 2, $150,000 Barbara Fritchie Handicap and the $75,000 John B. Campbell Handicap were moved to a Monday card that also includes the Grade 2, $150,000 General George Handicap and the $75,000 Marshua Stakes.

"We are looking to card quality races but horses have not been able to train since last Friday morning," said Maryland Jockey Club racing secretary Georganne Hale. "The New York trainers have told us they would have trouble shipping down as well. We are trying to make the best out of a bad situation by carding the General George, Fritchie, Campbell and Marshua on the same day."

Friday's nine-race program will be run Saturday.

There is no simulcasting at either Laurel or Pimlico on Thursday, and a decision is pending for Friday.

* Due to severe weather conditions in the Charles Town area over the past week, Charles Town Races & Slots has canceled live racing through Sunday. The facility will continue to remain open for simulcasting. Live racing is scheduled to resume on Wednesday, Feb. 17.
