Laurel: Les Ry Leigh dominates

Email

Ridden by Rosie Napravnik, Les Ry Leigh sat in third place, just off the pace, then glided up the rail into the lead and pulled away to a decisive victory in the $75,000 Twixt at Laurel.

My Misty's Echo, under Ryan Fogelsonger, went to the front in the Twixt, setting fractions of 23.52 seconds for the quarter-mile and 47.68 seconds for the half, and then Napravnik and Les Ry Leigh made their move after six furlongs in 1:12.62, going on to win by 7 3/4 lengths.

Smart and Fancy, the 3-5 favorite off four straight victories but unraced past seven furlongs, pressed the early pace but had only enough in the final furlong to be second-best, five lengths ahead of the tiring My Misty's Echo in third. Racing Bridgett was fourth, and Keep on Talking, who stumbled at the break and trailed throughout, was fifth in the field of five 3-year-old fillies

Les Ry Leigh ran the one mile of the Twixt in 1:37.08 over a fast track, paying $8.40 as the second choice.

A Maryland-bred daughter of Broken Vow trained by Larry Jones, Les Ry Leigh earned $45,000 for her owner, Michael Pressley. It was her fourth victory in eight career starts.
