Laurel: Interesting pair from Capuano

Trainer Gary Capuano has one horse returning on short rest and another making his first start in 4 1/2 months lined up for the $50,000 Deputed Testamony Stakes at Laurel Park.

The one-mile race, restricted to Maryland-bred 3-year-olds, drew a field of seven.

The long-idle Wonder Mon, who was briefly on the Triple Crown trail, is the more intriguing of Capuano's two uncoupled entries. After winning the first two starts of his career, Wonder Mon lost six straight races and was given an extended vacation after finishing a distant sixth of seven in his turf debut on May 3. He may run better returning to Laurel, where he is 2 for 3 lifetime, and dropping into statebred company for the first time.

Legendary Lover, if he runs, would be coming back just seven days after finishing a remote third of six in a second-level optional $25,000 claimer. He will be making his stakes debut and meeting statebreds for the first time.

The horse with the sharpest recent form and some proven stakes form is Malibu Kid. He shipped to Charles Town to wire third-level open allowance company going seven furlongs last time out. He was good enough to finish second in the Maryland Juvenile Championship last December and third against open company in the Woodlawn at Pimlico this past spring.
