Laurel: Find appears wide open

Email

Contention runs deep in the $50,000 Find Handicap at Laurel Park.

The 1 1/8-mile turf race for Maryland-breds features two nice 3-year-olds in Baltimore Bob and Seeyouinthecity; Broadway Producer and Dr Rico, who finished a neck apart as the one-two finishers in last month's Maryland Million Turf, plus defending champion Headsandtales.

Based on their final fractions in their best recent nine-furlong grass performances, little separates Baltimore Bob, Broadway Producer, Dr Rico, and front-runner Seeyouinthecity.

Baltimore Bob, much improved making his first start on grass with the addition of Lasix, came home in 35.47 seconds beating older third-level optional claiming company last time out.

Dr Rico (35.43) actually finished faster than Broadway Producer (35.55) when he was nipped by a neck in the Maryland Million Turf. Dr Rico will be making the third start of his current form cycle, a situation which produced a win in June, and will be reunited with jockey Rosie Napravnik, who returned this week after being out since early August with a broken leg sustained in a spill at Delaware Park.

Seeyouinthecity, idle since setting the pace and tiring in the Grade 3 Kent on Aug. 30, ran his final three furlongs in 35.80 winning the Humphrey S. Finney on Aug. 36.

Headsandtales, who connected at 25-1 in last year's Find, returned from a nearly two-month layoff to just miss going a mile, running his final quarter-mile in 22.46 seconds.
