Dress Grey speeds away from eight other 3-year-old fillies to win the $75,000 Smart Halo Stakes by 8-1/2 lengths at Laurel Park.

A half-mile into the $75,000 Smart Halo Stakes at Laurel Park, Dress Grey took the lead and never looked back, drawing off to an 8 1/2-length win in the six-furlong race for 3-year-old fillies.

Ridden by Erick Rodriguez, Dress Grey ($10.40) broke well from the rail and stalked the 44-1 shot Citichurch through an opening quarter in 21.94 seconds. As Citichurch began to back up on her way to being eased, Dress Grey took the lead and extended it through the stretch, stopping the timer in 1:11.48.

Dress Grey galloped out lame past the wire. It was discovered that she had fractured her left sesamoid, but the injury was not life-threatening.

Ten Halos, ridden by Luis Garcia, beat out favored Summer Cruise by a head for second.

The Smart Halo was the first stakes win for Dress Grey, a Lion Hearted filly trained by Graham Motion for owner Linda Newton.

* In the $60,000 Snow Goose for fillies and mares, Princess Pelona ($14.80) led all the way to score by 3 1/4 lengths for trainer Michael Trombetta. She covered one mile in 1:37.78 under jockey Jose Caraballo.
