Laurel: Cherokee's Boy dominates

Cherokee's Boy ($3) erased any doubts about his ability to handle two turns when he drew off to a 7 1/2-length victory in the $75,000 Deputed Testamony Stakes for 3-year-olds at Laurel Park.

Although Cherokee's Boy has won 5 of 10 starts, including four stakes, the 1 1/16-mile Deputed Testamony was his first victory beyond seven furlongs.

Ridden by Ryan Fogelsonger, Cherokee's Boy sat just off the pace set by Brush Ahead through slow fractions of 25.23 seconds, 49.47, and 1:14.42. When asked to move, Cherokee's Boy blew past Brush Ahead on the final turn and completed 1 1/16 miles in 1:46.35.

Cherokee's Boy so far is following the same campaign as Magic Weisner, who won the Goss Stryker and Deputed Testamony in Maryland a year ago before gaining national prominence with runner-up finishes in the Preakness and Travers stakes, and a win in the Grade 2 Ohio Derby.
