The 3-year-old filly Charged Cotton, ridden by Horatio Karamanos, scores by 1 1/4 lengths in the All Brandy.

Charged Cotton proved she could handle two turns last time out when she stretched out from 5 1/2 furlongs to a mile. Saturday, she handled an even longer distance while winning her stakes debut.

Sent off the 7-5 favorite in a field of 10 Maryland-bred fillies and mares, the 3-year-old Charged Cotton ($4.80) rallied from fifth to post a 1 1/4-length victory in the $100,000 All Brandy Stakes at Laurel Park.

Charged Cotton, a lightly raced daughter of Dehere, stalked the pace  before swinging three wide into the stretch and overtaking front-runner Daydreamin Gracie, before holding off a late surge by 18-1 longshot Grant Park. The winning time over firm turf was 1:47.05.

Charged Cotton, was ridden by Horatio Karamanos for owner Sagamore Farm and trainer Ignacio Correas IV.

“She had some behavior problems,” said Correas. “She showed us she had talent and there was something there. But she can be difficult to work with. She tells us what she likes and we adapt.”

It was her third win in five lifetime starts, all on the turf.

The runner-up Grant Park finished a length in front of Daydreamin Gracie. Baltimore Belle, the morning-line favorite, finished fifth.
