ETOBICOKE, Ontario — Latonka toyed with his five rivals in Monday’s $125,000 Bull Page Stakes at Woodbine, winning the six-furlong dash for 2-year-olds with a powerful stretch rally under Gary Boulanger. Latonka ($13.10) began slowly and trailed while far back early, as longshot Inge set moderate fractions. Be Vewy Vewy Quiet, the 1-5 favorite in his first start under Eurico Da Silva, mounted a wide rally and looked the winner in midstretch, but Latonka came charging wide from left field to prevail by three-quarters of a length, in a time of 1:10.56. Be Vewy Vewy Quiet, who won the Aug. 5 Clarendon Stakes under Sheena Ryan, edged out a weakening Inge for second. “He showed us a lot of class in the morning, and he’s learning a lot,” Boulanger said. “He’s obviously a horse with a tremendous turn of foot. We don’t know how good he is yet, but he’s been awfully good to us. He’s a pleasure to ride, and a pleasure to be around.” Latonka, a son of Signature Red, is unbeaten in two starts. He earned $75,000 for a partnership that includes trainer Denyse McClachire.
