Late burst propels There Goes Rocket

There Goes Rocket wins the $75,000 colts and geldings division of the Texas Stallion Stakes at Sam Houston Race Park.

There Goes Rocket was up for a neck win over Sling Shot in the $75,000 colts and geldings division of the Texas Stallion Stakes at Sam Houston Race Park on Saturday night. Woodmeister finished third, eight lengths behind Sling Shot.

There Goes Rocket ($3.20) settled in fifth early in the mile and a sixteenth race for 3-year-olds, then outgamed Sling Shot in the stretch. He covered the distance over a muddy track in 1:47.64.

There Goes Rocket, who last year won the one-mile and five and a half furlong divisions of the Texas Stallion Stakes, earned $45,000 for the win. E.J. Perrodin rode There Goes Rocket for trainer Sam David, Jr.

The colt has now won 5 of 7 starts and $244,500 for owner Frank Fletcher.

Native Annie ($2.80) remained undefeated in three career starts when she drew out to an eight and a three-quarter length win in the $75,000 fillies division of the Texas Stallion Stakes. She covered the mile and a sixteenth over a muddy track in 1:48.84.

Robby Albarado rode Native Annie for Stonerside Stable and trainer Michael Stidham.
