Lasting Lake looks tough in comeback

It is hard to separate the six fillies and mares entered in Wednesday's seventh race at Northlands Park. The $22,000 claiming race over six furlongs will serve as the feature race for the first midweek card of the year.

Trainer Robertino Diodoro is on fire at the meet, with 11 wins from his first 21 starters. Diodoro has entered Lasting Lake, and she could be tough to handle if she is on her game.

Lasting Lake is making her first start of the year, and it also will be her first race for Diodoro, who claimed her for $17,500 on Oct. 4. Lasting Lake used her good speed to win back-to-back sprints for this price at Northlands last summer. She overcame a rough trip to beat Excessive B and B on July 25 and then easily handled Get Ready for This on Aug. 9. She finished last in the race she was claimed out of and then was turned out for the winter. She has been working forwardly this spring and could be favored.

Rare Crystal knows how to win races and she comes in racing fit from Fonner Park. Rare Crystal, who is trained by Jim Meyaard, won an allowance race at Fonner on March 28 and then set the pace before tiring to finish fifth in a stakes race April 11. She has won 6 races from 18 starts and appears to have the best early speed in the field.
