Last fall's It's Only Money 1-2 meet again

Green Suede Shoes and Gabriel's Smile, who finished one-two when this same stakes was contested last fall, are rematched in Saturday night's $50,000 It's Only Money Stakes, a 4 1/2-furlong sprint for West Virginia-breds at Charles Town.

The 6-year-old Green Suede Shoes, claimed for $16,000 last June, has been first or second in 5 of 7 starts since joining trainer Tim Grams's barn. He ran the fastest race of his 23-race career, earning a 96 Beyer Speed Figure by wiring the It's Only Money last Sept. 12 at odds of 9-1.

A short-sprint specialist who has been no worse than second in 12 of 17 starts at Charles Town, Green Suede Shoes most recently overcame a slow start to finish third against open company on March 26.

The 4-year-old Gabriel's Smile, who romped by 9 1/2 lengths in last summer's Coin Collector, concluded his 10-race 3-year-old campaign by finishing second to Green Suede Shoes in the 2009 It's Only Money. He has not been closer than 5 3/4 lengths to the winner in two starts this year, but trainer Raimondo Schiano-Dicola is removing the blinkers for Saturday's race. Gabriel's Smile raced without blinkers in all five of his wins last season.

The hot horse moving up in class is Rock to Bop, who faces stakes company for the first time after winning his first two starts off the claim by trainer Ollie Figgins III by nearly 12 lengths.
