With Triple Crown winner American Pharoah’s first foals starting to arrive, one of a commercial buyer’s final chances to pick up a member of his first crop in utero comes at Keeneland January, where seven mares in foal to the young star will be offered, mainly in the early portion of the sale.

The group includes Dame Ellen and Divalarious, both from the family of English 1000 Guineas winner Sleepytime and Group 1 winners Ali-Royal and Taipan; J Z Now and Toast to Ashley, both from the family of American Pharoah’s sire, Pioneerof the Nile; Joyfully, from the family of unbeaten champion and blue hen Personal Ensign; Mohini, a Galileo mare from the family of Group 1 winners Coup de Genie, Machiavellian, Exit to Nowhere, Emollient, Bago, and Maxios; and Beautiful Julie, from the family of champion Street Sense.

American Pharoah was represented by 10 mares sold last fall between the Fasig-Tipton and Keeneland November mixed sales, with that lot averaging a healthy $440,000, led by a pair of $600,000 mares.

American Pharoah stands at Coolmore’s Ashford Stud in Versailles, Ky., and covered 208 mares in his first season, making him the third-busiest stallion in North America in 2016, according to The Jockey Club’s Report of Mares Bred. His first foal from that group is a colt born Jan. 3 in Kentucky.
