Larger catalog for Keeneland September yearling sale

The 2016 Keeneland September yearling sale, the world’s largest Thoroughbred auction, will feature 4,479 entries over 13 sessions.

The auction will take place Sept. 12-25, beginning with three sessions of the select Book 1, followed by the traditional “dark day” on Thursday, Sept. 15, then continuing daily through the end of the catalog.

“The September sale provides more winners of racing’s biggest events and more participants at the sport’s highest level than any other sale,” said Keeneland director of sales Geoffrey Russell. “From the Triple Crown to Royal Ascot to Dubai’s Racing Festival and the Breeders’ Cup, buyers are attracted to the September sale for its consistency in producing world-class athletes.”

This year’s catalog marks a 6 percent increase from the 2015 renewal, which featured 4,164 yearlings. The upcoming sale features 2,234 colts and 2,145 fillies spread across its six books.

The Keeneland September catalog will be available online Aug. 9, and print catalogs will be mailed the week of Aug. 22.
