Lane's End to stand Courageous Cat

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The owner of Lane’s End Farm, Will Farish, has bought an interest in Breeders’ Cup Mile contender and classy turf male Courageous Cat and says the horse, by Storm Cat, will stand at Lane’s End after the Nov. 5 BC Mile at Churchill Downs.

In his most recent start, 5-year-old Courageous Cat finished a neck behind winner Turallure in the Grade 1 Woodbine Mile on Sept. 18. Before that, he won Hollywood’s Grade 1 Shoemaker Mile and a trio of other graded stakes: the Grade 3 Poker Stakes this year, Grade 3 Canadian Turf Stakes in 2010, and Grade 2 National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame Stakes in 2009. He is also Grade 1-placed in four other events, including a runner-up finish to Goldikova in the 2009 Breeders’ Cup Mile when he was 3.

Courageous Cat’s earnings stand at $1,165,760 from 6 wins, 3 second-place finishes, and 2 thirds in 14 starts.

Courageous Cat is a homebred for Pam and Marty Wygod, who bred him from their Grade 1-winning millionaire Tranquility Lake, by Rahy. Tranquility Lake is also the dam of another Lane’s End stallion, After Market, a two-time Grade 1 winner, and of graded winner Jalil, a $9.7 million yearling back in 2005. Both are full brothers to Courageous Cat.

“We feel Courageous Cat is the top miler in the country, and he is certainly one of the leading candidates for this year’s Breeders’ Cup Mile,” Farish said in the announcement. “After that race, he will be retired and a stud fee will be announced.”
