Lailani out for six straight in Nassau

Lailani will attempt to stretch her winning streak to six in the 1 1/4-mile Group 1 Nassau Stakes for fillies and mares at Goodwood on Saturday.

Trained by Ed Dunlop, Lailani stepped up from the handicap ranks on July 15 to take the 1 1/2-mile Group 1 Irish Oaks by a neck over Mot Juste, who is passing the Nassau. With three previous victories at 10 furlongs, the cutback in distance should pose no problem.

Her biggest challenge could come from Time Away, who is trained by Dunlop's father, John. Time Away won of the Group 3 Musidora Stakes and was third in Aquarelliste's French Oaks at 1 5/16 miles, but found the 12 furlongs of the Irish Oaks too far.

The Aidan O'Brien-trained Sequoyah, who was only 1 3/4 lengths behind Lailani in fourth in the Irish Oaks, is another contender. Of the two older fillies in the field of seven, Danceabout is the more dangerous. Although only fourth in two starts this season, she was just three lengths behind Medicean in a Group 1 mile in April. If she can stay 1 1/4 miles in her first attempt at the distance, she could pull off an upset.
