Trainer Frank Laboccetta Jr. suffered a broken arm, a broken leg, and a couple of broken ribs as the result of a head-on car accident Saturday in Saratoga County, according to a fellow trainer.

Trainer Scott Lake, who is stabled next to Laboccetta at Saratoga, said Laboccetta remained in an Albany hospital on Monday.

"He had a meeting with an arthroscopic surgeon," Lake said Monday. "He's still in the hospital."

According to broadcast reports, Laboccetta's Mercedes hit head-on with a Subaru sport utility vehicle on Route 9 in Wilton, N.Y. Laboccetta and the unidentified driver of the SUV were flown to Albany Medical Center, according to a report on Capital News 9's website. Three others in the SUV were taken to Saratoga Hospital, the report said.

Laboccetta, 35, has been training horses since 2001, after he ended an eight-year riding career in which he won 139 races from 1,751 mounts. As a trainer, he has won 168 races from 762 starters.
