La Troienne: Blind Luck rallies to nip Unrivaled Belle

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Blind Luck recovered from a stumbling start to post a dramatic victory Friday over Unrivaled Belle in the 26th running of the Grade 2, $300,000-added La Troienne Stakes at Churchill Downs.

With Garrett Gomez aboard, Blind Luck rallied from last in a field of eight fillies and mares to post a narrow triumph over Unrivaled Belle, reversing the results of the Breeders’ Cup Ladies’ Classic here last fall. All Due Respect was third and pacesetting Absinthe Minded was fourth

Blind Luck, the 2010 Kentucky Oaks winner, returned $4.80 after finishing 1 1/16 miles in 1:42.93 over a fast track. Trained by Jerry Hollendorfer, the 4-year-old filly snapped a streak of five straight runner-up finishes with her La Troienne score over Unrivaled Belle, the defending champion.

The $2 exacta (7-8) paid $11.80, and the $2 trifecta (7-8-4) paid $91.
