Kool Humor takes Alysheba

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas - Kool Humor held off a stretch bid from Shawklit Man to win the $100,000 Alysheba Breeders' Cup by a length and a quarter Saturday at Lone Star Park. It was another seven and a half lengths back in third to Iceandwater.

The field was reduced to four with the scratch of Yessirgeneralsir.

Kool Humor($3.40) broke sharp in the seven furlong race for 3-year-olds, and overtook early pacesetter Haillye's A.T.M after an opening quarter in 22.78 seconds. Kool Humor went on to lead the field through a half-mile in 44.95 seconds before covering the distance over a track rated muddy in 1:21.92.

"We're really pleased with him," said Jack Bruner, who trains Kool Humor.

Eddie Martin, Jr. rode Kool Humor, who gave him his eighth stakes win at the meet, breaking the record of seven in a Lone Star meet held by Marlon St. Julien.

Kool Humor earned $60,000 for the win, which improved his record to three wins from seven starts for earnings of $141,410. Kool Humor, a gelded son of Distorted Humor, races for Tom Durant, who won the Alysheba in 2001 with Touch Tone.
