Klokstad doubles his chances

AUBURN, Wash. - Trainer Bud Klokstad has a pair of aces in Saturday's top offering at Emerald Downs, a six-furlong race for $25,000 fillies and mares that has drawn a field of eight.

Klokstad will saddle the well-matched duo of Elegant Colors and Personal Decision, who will race as an entry owing to common ownership.

Both of Klokstad's horses have won at the meeting. Elegant Colors came from far back to down $40,000 optional claimers at six furlongs in April. Personal Decision posted wire-to-wire wins over $20,000 rivals at 6 1/2 furlongs in June and over $25,000 foes at a mile in July. Both runners are coming off out-of-the-money efforts at the $32,000 level, however, and Elegant Colors hasn't raced since June 22.

Exclusive Molly may have the best chance of upsetting the entry. She won sprint races over $25,000 and $32,000 company earlier in the meet and has had excuses in her last two outings. Exclusive Molly raced extremely wide en route to a fifth-place finish against $50,000 optional claimers on

July 27 and she was forced to take up sharply on the turn last time out on Aug. 17, when she finished last of seven against $32,000 company.

Also dangerous is Got You Slew, who is returning to action off a series of sharp works for trainer Roy Lumm. Got You Slew tried stakes company when last seen in the June 22 King County Handicap, but lost all chance when she broke in the air. She ran second to $32,000 claimers in her previous race at 6 1/2 furlongs.
